I Hit a Fat Loss Plateau, Should I Reverse Diet?

Modified on Mon, 5 Nov, 2018 at 6:34 PM

Weight loss plateaus happen when calories drop so low that you’re unable to stick to them. At this point, rather than beating your head against a wall and torturing your body in the name of fat loss, it would be a good idea to refocus on restoring your metabolism.

Continued weight loss would require you to keep cutting calories. And even if you were to be able to stick to those calories, you’d likely experience relentless urges to binge and decreased energy levels, along with a higher risk of suppressing your metabolic rate.

Instead of risking these consequences, you’d be better off focusing on improving your metabolism so that you’ll be in a better position to diet in the future. The mental break from dieting can give you a renewed sense of motivation when you do jump back in, and you’ll have more room to cut calories again. With the help of a good weight training program, you might even be able to add quite a bit of muscle during the process! All in all, this will increase your likelihood of achieving success in losing weight again.
