How to Deal With the Psychology/Emotions of Reverse Dieting

Modified on Mon, 15 Jan, 2018 at 6:25 PM

It can be emotionally and psychologically difficult to reverse diet when all you want to do is lose weight. To help manage this, you’ll need to do two main things:

  1.  You must accept that to get something different you’ll need to do something different. If you’ve repeatedly failed to adhere to and lose weight on your diet and are miserable eating bite-sized meals, it’s time for a change. What you’ve been doing hasn’t worked, so it doesn’t make sense for you continue to spin your wheels and beat your head against a wall.

  2. You should switch your focus from your appearance and the scale to a non-appearance related goal, such as increasing strength or performance in the gym. Doing so will give you something tangible to work toward while you shift your attention to less superficial concerns and enjoying life. The process of being able to eat more and accept yourself will not only be liberating, but it will give you a whole new lease on life.
