Why Not Just Count Calories?

Modified on Fri, 12 Jan, 2018 at 1:18 PM

Although protein, carbs, and fat all contribute calories, each plays a distinct and important role in helping you shape your ideal physique. That’s why it’s not enough to just count calories.

Calories are the most important factor when it comes to losing and gaining weight, but if you want to lose the right kind of weight and optimally fuel, build, and nourish your body, it’s better to focus on macronutrients.

Here are a few important things that each macro does for your body:

  • Protein preserves muscle, boosts metabolism, and keeps you full while dieting.

  • Carbs give you the energy to train hard.

  • Fat also acts as an energy source, and prevents changes to hormones that could sabotage muscle-building and fat loss.
