Why Is the Protein Target so High for Vegans?

Plant-based proteins are lower in the key amino acids (BCAAs) needed for muscle growth and preservation, and they’re also less bioavailable than animal-based proteins. For this reason, vegans will need to eat more total protein to reach the same level of essential amino acids as people who eat diets rich in animal-based proteins.
