Menopause isn’t a death sentence for attaining your ideal body.

Although metabolism does tend to slow with age, the degree to which this is caused by menopause-mediated hormonal changes or by other factors—such as a decline in activity and lean mass—is up for debate.

Lower estrogen has been shown to be associated with a reduction in energy expenditure, but so has the loss of muscle mass and decrease in physical activity seen with aging.

Each year after the age of 30, women lose about a half-pound of muscle per year, and they also tend to become much more sedentary. Therefore, building muscle and exercising more can be a great way to at least partially restore your metabolic rate if your post-menopausal.

Even if your metabolism is running a little slow despite your best efforts to rev it up, you’ll still be able to lose weight if you drop calories low enough. The key to losing weight is to create a calorie deficit by eating fewer calories than you burn. Although the number of calories you burn may be somewhat lower when you’re post-menopausal, you can still create the calorie deficit needed to lose weight by eating less and exercising more.

For this reason, Avatar Nutrition will still work for you, and you can even try the reverse dieting feature along with weight training to see if you can increase your metabolism further.
