Who should choose the weight loss goal?
The fat loss goal is for those who have a healthy metabolism and want to lose weight. If your metabolism is slow due to a long history of crash dieting (or other reasons), we recommend reverse dieting before attempting weight loss as your goal.

How does weight loss on the Avatar system work?
To lose weight, you’ll need to eat fewer calories than you burn.
Your macros and the amount of weight you’re expected to lose each week will depend on which weight loss setting you choose. If you don’t lose enough weight at your weekly weigh-in, your macros will be reduced for the next week. If you lose far too much, you’ll get a boost in macros.
By monitoring your weekly progress and adjusting your macros accordingly, the Avatar system will help you avoid weight loss plateaus and keep you progressing toward your goal.
What setting should I choose?
Avatar recommends that most people set the weight loss goal slider more to the left. On this slower setting, you’ll diet with more calories, preserve muscle, and protect your metabolism. You’ll also be less hungry and may have less desire to binge, which can put you in a better position to actually hit the recommended macros and keep lost weight off for good!
While we do allow users to set their weight loss goal to be more aggressive, it’s important to understand that this will cut calories very low. For this reason, we don’t usually recommend this for new members, and no one should have the slider all the way to the right for more than a few weeks.
Keep in mind that you can also adjust the slider as needed, but the most successful dieters stay on a slow to moderate weight loss goal for the majority of their cut.

When should I end my weight loss phase?
Some people will reach their goal weight without any major roadblocks, while others might struggle and need to end their diet early.
After dieting for a while, it’s common for metabolism to slow to the point where continuing to lose weight means eating miserably low calories. Hunger and the urge to binge can make it extremely difficult to stick to that diet, and this is usually a sign that you need to end your cut and reverse diet.

What goal should I choose next?
When your cut is over, Avatar recommends switching directly to a reverse diet setting.
By switching your goal to reverse dieting, you can increase your calories back to a more manageable level while limiting weight regain and rehabbing your metabolism.
Once you decide to start your reverse diet, you can choose to select a “calorie boost” when you switch your goal. This is useful if you’re super hungry and have trouble controlling the urge to binge, or if you just want to get out of your calorie deficit quickly and start eating more food.
