Unlike the other goals, there isn’t a clear recommendation for when you should stop maintaining your weight. Taking your time with the maintenance phase after reverse will help solidify your metabolism and keep your calories from quickly backsliding again (such as if you switched back to weight loss too soon). We always recommend maintaining after you’ve reverse dieted, but there isn’t a maximum length of time to maintain.
For some, maintenance is the ultimate goal. If you’ve reached your body composition goals, and you don’t want to worry about the ups-and-downs of dieting or building muscle anymore, feel free to stay in maintenance indefinitely. The Avatar system will provide macro adjustments that keep you in your desired body weight range, even as your metabolism changes over time.
However, if you’re using maintenance as a means to an end, you should keep your long-term goals in mind. Committing to maintenance after reversing helps your metabolism to adapt, setting you up for dieting success later. If you’re maintaining as a mental break from dieting/reversing, just maintain until you feel ready (physically and mentally) to continue on toward your goal.
