The tools that most Avatar members use to measure their body fat are very useful as long as the same method is used each week and under the same conditions. All “measurements” of body fat percentage are based on formulas that predict (not really measure) body fat. This is important to know because it shows why the “accuracy” of your body fat measuring method doesn’t matter as much as doing the same test over time. If you’re consistent, the system will get consistent, useful data.

But, if you need to change your body fat measuring method, this becomes a problem: Your body fat might “change” by a significant amount in a single day, simply because you switched tools/methods. This could throw off your macro adjustments if you’re in a weight loss phase, and could suddenly change your protein recommendation (because your lean body mass will appear to change as well).

In order to keep this from happening, your best bet is to start using the new method or device for measuring body fat %, and then choose to keep your targets for another week if you are given an adjustment. That way, the change won’t affect your macros for the following week. Then, as you continue using that measurement tool, you can check-in safely the next week with your new method.
