There are several methods approved by Avatar to measure body fat, and by following the tips below, you can maximize the accuracy of each method.
Calipers and Skin Fold Testing (Highest Accuracy/Most Recommended)
Tips to improve accuracy:
Pinch the same exact points from week to week and use the same pressure.
Measure each site 3-4 times and record the average of the measurements.
Use the same side of the body each time you measure.
Stay relaxed when you are measured. We know you want to flex :)
Open the dialogue box next to each site listing at weigh-in for explicit instructions and pictures detailing how and where to take each skinfold.
BIA Scales and Handheld Devices
Tips to improve accuracy:
Measure first thing in the morning before eating and after using the bathroom to eliminate error caused by changes in hydration status, meals, and exercise.

Measure first thing in the morning before eating and after using the bathroom to minimize potential bloating from food or liquid.
Make sure to measure circumference at the exact same spot at each weigh-in.

Since it can be difficult to accurately perceive what your body looks like (especially from one week to the next), take front and back pictures before every weigh-in. This will give you something more objective to work from.
